- KNOW YOR RUG – What kind of yarn, what kind of backing and special instructions from the manufacturer.
- ROTATE YOUR RUG – And the life of high traffic areas can be elongated or preserved.
- AVOID THE SUN – Limit your rug’s exposure to direct sunlight to prevent fading. Keep blinds closed when the room is not in use.
- MANAGE SHEDDING – Vacuum 1-2 times a week initially. Do not pull on stray loops, always cut them back to size.
- PROTECT YOUR RUG FROM FURNITURE – Use protectors on the feet of furniture to prevent large divots or damage to the pile. Also, ensure legs are clean before placing on the rug.
- VACUUM REGULARLY – Vacuuming your rug will extend the life and beaty of your rug significantly (every 1 to 2 weeks is ideal, more often for high traffic). Make sure to use a vacuum that can cater to the pile of the rug: if you have high pile rug it could be damaged by a vacuum on a low pile setting, at the same time, if you have a low pile rug, a high pile setting will not really clean your rug.
- REMOVE PET HAIR – If there is stubborn pet hair or dirt, there are a few tools you can use to get rid of it without damaging the rug, such as a carpet brush, a carper rake or a standard squeegee tool, generally used for glass and mirrors.
- STAIN AND SPILL TRIAGE – Quickly blot up the spill using a clean cloth. Do not rub, this can press the spill further into the fibers and increase the likelihood that it will stain. Scrape up semi sold spills with a thin spoon. As it dries, vacuum it up.
